Head-On Vehicle Crash Kills Woman in Elizabethton, Tennessee
ELIZABETHTON, TN. – According to a news story reported online by wjhl.com, a head-on vehicle crash killed a woman in Elizabethton, Tennessee. It is not yet clear what caused the accident to occur, and officials are still investigating. The victim has been identified, as has the driver of the other vehicle.*
The collision happened in the morning on April 16 on Mary Patton Highway. Tennessee Highway Patrol and WJHL report that a vehicle was traveling on Mary Patton Highway in Elizabethton and came to a curve in the roadway. In navigating the curve, Troopers say the driver crossed over the centerline of the highway.
The vehicle then entered the path of traffic headed in the opposite direction and struck another vehicle head-on. Descriptions of the two vehicles were not provided in the report from WJHL, and the report did not say which direction each of the vehicles had been traveling on the highway. Troopers said the second vehicle’s driver tried to swerve but was unable to avoid the crash.
WJHL reports that the driver of the second vehicle was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene. She was identified as a 69-year-old woman from Hampton, Tennessee. It does not appear that any passengers were in the vehicle with her, but this was not confirmed.
It is unclear if the other driver was injured or if anyone else was riding in that vehicle. That driver was identified as an 81-year-old man from Vilas, North Carolina. Tennessee Highway Patrol said that charges were pending against him. The accident investigation is still ongoing.
