Student Injured in Hit-and-Run School Bus Crash in Orange County, Florida

April 19, 2019

ORANGE COUNTY, FL. – According to news reports posted online at orlandosentinel.com and nbc-2.com, a student was injured in a hit-and-run school bus crash in Orange County, Florida. Authorities have reported that the other driver involved in the accident hit the bus and then left the scene.*

The accident took place on the afternoon of April 16 at an intersection in Orange County. Both news reports say that the bus was carrying 51 students at the time, and the report from NBC says it was coming from Olympia Highway School in Orlando, Florida. In the area of South Apopka Vineland Road and Steer Lake Road, the bus and another vehicle collided.

The report from NBC says the other vehicle rear-ended the bus. No information about the cause of the crash was reported, nor was a description of the other vehicle. It is unclear what events led to the collision. Both reports say that after the crash, the driver of the other vehicle left the scene.

Florida Highway Patrol and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. Authorities said one student sustained injuries in the accident, and emergency crews took her to Orlando Health Central Hospital in Ocoee, Florida, for treatment. She was identified as a 15-year-old girl. Her name was not released. The Orlando Sentinel reports that no one else was injured.

Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash, and Troopers are looking for the missing driver. No information about this person was included in either report. The reports also did not contain a statement from the school system.
