Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash in Wauchula, Florida
WAUCHULA, FL. – According to a news story posted online at fox13news.com, a motorcyclist was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash in Wauchula, Florida. Witnesses saw the accident and watched the driver of the other vehicle leave the scene, according to the report. Florida Highway Patrol is looking for the suspect.*
The accident occurred at about 5 p.m. on April 13 on U.S. Highway 17 in Wauchula. Florida Highway Patrol and Fox 13 say a Harley Davidson motorcycle was headed south on U.S. 17, approaching the Wauchula Supermarket. Troopers say a pickup truck then pulled out of the supermarket and traveled over the south lanes of the highway.
Troopers report that the truck crossed into the motorcycle’s path of travel, and the motorcyclist could not avoid a collision. The motorcycle then crashed into the driver’s side of the truck. Florida Highway Patrol stated that after the crash, the truck driver left the scene and was headed north on U.S. 17.
Fox 13 reports that the motorcyclist was seriously injured in the wreck, and emergency crews took him to Lakeland Regional Medical Center. His current medical condition is not known. He was identified as an 82-year-old man from Winter Haven, Florida.
Witnesses who were selling fruit near the site of the collision told authorities and reporters that the truck involved was a white four-door Dodge Ram. They said they watched the truck driver get out of the vehicle, look at the victim, and then leave. Anyone who might have information about the truck or the driver is asked to call Florida Highway Patrol at (239) 938-1800.
