Head-On Collision Causes One Fatality in Cartersville, Georgia

April 19, 2019

CARTERSVILLE, GA. – According to a news report posted online at coosavalleynews.com, a head-on vehicle collision caused one fatality in Cartersville, Georgia. The two drivers involved in the accident have both been identified, but investigators have not yet released information about the cause of the accident.*

The accident took place in the afternoon on April 16 on Highway 41 in Cartersville. Georgia State Patrol and Coosa Valley News report that at approximately 1 p.m., a 2017 Ford Fusion was headed southbound on Highway 41, while a 2004 Jeep Liberty was headed northbound on the same roadway.

At some point along the highway, Troopers say the Ford crossed the centerline of the highway and entered northbound traffic. The Ford continued south in the northbound lanes and ended up striking the Jeep head-on. Coosa Valley News reports that the impact occurred in the inside lane of Highway 41 North, which Troopers surmised from the damage to and trajectory of both vehicles.

Coosa Valley News reports that the driver of the Jeep was severely injured, and emergency crews transported her to Cartersville Medical Center, where she died of her injuries. She was identified as a 52-year-old woman from Cartersville.

Coosa Valley News also reports that the driver of the Ford sustained injuries in the wreck, and a medical helicopter was summoned to fly him to Grady Hospital. He was identified as a 30-year-old man from Cartersville. His current medical condition is not known.

Georgia State Patrol is investigating the head-on crash, and Troopers had not released further information at the time of the Coosa Valley News report’s publishing online. No information about charges was included in the report.
