Motorcyclist Dies in Collision with Vehicle in Hillsborough County, Florida
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL. – According to a news report published online at tbreporter.com, a motorcyclist died in a collision with a vehicle in Hillsborough County, Florida. The accident took place on Interstate 275, and the news report indicates that the motorcyclist died at the scene.*
The collision occurred in the late evening on I-275 in Hillsborough County. Florida Highway Patrol and the Tampa Bay Reporter state that a 2002 motorcycle was traveling north in the outside lane of I-275 and was following a 2005 Toyota Camry. At the exit for State Road 580, the motorcyclist moved into the exit lane.
Troopers say that the driver of the Toyota then also moved into the exit lane, and the side mirror of the Toyota struck the motorcycle. The impact caused the motorcycle to veer off the shoulder of the roadway and crash into a guardrail.
The Tampa Bay Reporter says that the motorcyclist was critically injured in the crash and died at the scene. Troopers reported that he was not wearing a helmet when the accident occurred. He was identified as a 43-year-old man from Tampa, Florida.
The driver of the Toyota was not injured, the news report said. She was identified as a 27-year-old woman from Tampa. It is unclear if anyone else was riding in the Toyota. Florida Highway Patrol did not immediately report on why the accident took place or what factors contributed to the collision.
Investigation into the collision is still ongoing. Troopers said that charges were pending against the Toyota driver.
