Driver Facing Charges for Crash that Kills Passenger in New Bern, North Carolina

NEW BERN, NC. – According to a news story reported online by, a driver is facing criminal charges in connection with a vehicle crash that killed a passenger in his car in New Bern, North Carolina. The driver reportedly ran off the road and hit a tree, and authorities have reported he has been charged with reckless driving.*

North Carolina Highway Patrol states that they are several charges pending against a 21-year-old male driver from New Bern in connection with a vehicle wreck that killed a passenger in his car. The accident happened on U.S. Highway 17 in Craven County, North Carolina. 

Troopers and WRAL report that the man was traveling north on U.S. 17 and somehow lost control of his vehicle. He then ran off the roadway and crashed into a tree. It is still unclear from the WRAL report what caused the loss of control or what factors might have led to the crash.

The driver of the vehicle was injured, and emergency crews took him to a nearby hospital for treatment. A passenger in the vehicle was trapped inside and had to be extricated by emergency responders. According to WRAL and investigating officials, the passenger was then taken to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries. He was identified as a 22-year-old man from New Bern.

Upon investigation, charges were filed against the driver of the vehicle, which include reckless driving and driving with a revoked license. It is unclear when he will have to appear in court on the charges.
