Vehicle Accident Kills Passenger in Gaston, North Carolina, Driver Leaves Scene
GASTON, NC. – According to an online news report published at wtkr.com, a vehicle accident in Gaston, North Carolina, killed a passenger. When authorities arrived at the scene of the accident, the driver of the vehicle had left. Police are still attempting to locate this person, according to the news report.*
The accident happened in the early morning on North Carolina Highway 46 in Gaston. At about midnight that day, emergency crews were called to the scene of Highway 46 and Oak Grove Church Road for a reported vehicle accident. The accident reportedly involved an entrapment, and Gaston Fire and EMS responded.
They arrived at the scene to find that a sedan has been in a serious accident. The vehicle was stopped along a ditch and had significant damage, including a smashed in roof. The report from WTKR did not say whether any other vehicles were at the scene. It is unclear how the crash occurred.
WTKR and responding officials report that a passenger in the front passenger’s seat of the vehicle was sadly dead when they arrived. The victim was identified only as a male. The driver of the vehicle was no longer inside and was not at the scene of the accident, according to officials and WTKR.
Emergency responders had to extricate the victim with hydraulic spreaders and cutters, according to the news report. Crews were at the scene for more than an hour.
No information about the circumstances leading to the crash was reported by WTKR. The report states that authorities were not able to immediately locate the driver of the vehicle and did not release any information about him or her. North Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating.
