YADKINVILLE, NC. – According to a news story posted online at, one person was killed in a five-vehicle crash that occurred in a construction zone in Yadkinville, North Carolina. One other person was injured in the crash, according to authorities.*

The deadly accident occurred in the afternoon on April 11 on Interstate 77 in Yadkinville. At approximately 2:20 p.m., vehicles traveling north on I-77 were merging down to one lane because of construction ahead. Traffic was at a stop due to the single-lane merge, and a tractor-trailer failed to slow down and struck the back of a Chevrolet (model not reported).

The impact started a chain-reaction of collisions, with the Chevrolet crashing into a truck hauling a trailer and the truck striking another tractor-trailer. The WXII report also states that the truck’s trailer spilled its load onto the roadway and hit a van. It is not yet clear why the driver of the first tractor-trailer failed to reduce speed before the initial collision.

According to WXII, another person was injured in the accident, and emergency crews took this person to a nearby hospital for treatment. This person was also not identified. Their injuries were reported to be non-life threatening.

North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the collision, and Troopers indicated that charges are pending. No further information about the accident was released at the time the WXII report was published online.
