One Killed, Several Injured in Vehicle Wreck in Jacksonville, Florida
JACKSONVILLE, FL. – According to a news story published online at wokv.com, one person was killed and several others were injured in a vehicle wreck that took place in Jacksonville, Florida. The wreck involved six vehicles in total, the news story said, though it is not clear how each of the vehicles came to be involved.*
The collision began in the late afternoon on April 11 on U.S. Highway 17 in Jacksonville. At about 4 p.m. that day, Florida Highway Patrol says a Chevrolet Suburban was traveling on U.S. 17 and somehow hit another vehicle near Birmingham Avenue and the Naval Air Station. It is not clear what direction the Suburban had been traveling.
The Suburban left the roadway after crashing into the other vehicle, described as a truck by WOKV, then overturned and caught on fire. At some point during the collision, four other vehicles became involved in the crash. These vehicles were not described, and it is not clear from the WOKV report how they came to be involved in the accident.
WOKV reports that the driver of the Suburban was critically injured and died at the scene. He was identified as a 60-year-old man from Jacksonville. His name was not released.
One of the other drivers suffered serious injuries, WOKV reports, and the other drivers and passengers involved in the accident sustained minor injuries. The circumstances of the accident are not clear at this time, and Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating.
Troopers posted on social media after the accident, “Fatal Crash: US 17 near NAS Jax. Numerous vehicles. One confirmed deceased on scene. Investigators are still processing scene. Roadway is blocked between Ortega Farms and Collins Road. Please seek alternate route. More info to follow.”
