April 15, 2019

MORGAN COUNTY, GA. – According to a news story posted online at morgancountycitizen.com, officials are reporting that a tire issue led to a fatal vehicle crash in Morgan County, Georgia. One man was killed in the accident, when his truck ran off the road and crashed into a tree.*

The accident happened in the afternoon on April 20 on Interstate 20 in Morgan County. At about 2 p.m. that day, a pickup truck was traveling east on I-20 while hauling a gooseneck trailer loaded with two pickups. Near the area of mile marker 112, Georgia State Patrol reports that the dually experienced a tire issue.

The nature of the tire issue was not reported. Troopers and the Morgan County Citizen report that the driver attempted to pull off the road into the shoulder but lost control. The truck then left the roadway on the south side and traveled into a ditch before hitting a tree. At impact, the trailer broke free and crashed through rear window of the dually.

The Morgan County Citizen reports that the driver of the truck was fatally injured in the wreck, and EMS and Morgan County Fire officials pronounced him dead at the scene. He was identified as a 52-year-old man from Charlotte, North Carolina. It does not appear that anyone else was inside the truck when it crashed.

The wreck caused one lane of I-20 East to close while crews cleared the scene and performed preliminary investigation. A photo taken at the scene and posted on the website for the Morgan County Citizen shows traffic delays on the eastbound side of the interstate. Georgia State Patrol is still investigating the accident.
