STATESBORO, GA. – According to an online news story reported by statesboroherald.com, a man was killed in a single-car wreck in Statesboro, Georgia. Investigators have identified the victim, but they have not yet determined what caused the collision. The investigation is still ongoing.*
The crash occurred on Jones Mill Road according to Georgia State Patrol and the Statesboro Herald. At about 6 a.m. that morning, Troopers from Georgia State Patrol Post 56 were called to the scene of a vehicle accident at Jones Mill Road and Lester Road.
Investigators report that a 2008 Chevrolet Impala was traveling west on Jones Mill Road and came to a curve near Lester Road. In attempting to travel around the curve, Troopers say the Chevy driver lost control and left the roadway. The Chevy drove about 100 feet off of the road and struck a tree. It then continued more than 20 feet before coming to a stop.
It is not yet clear why the driver of the Chevy lost control on the curve. Troopers did not report on any factors that might have contributed to the loss of control. It is also unclear why the vehicle traveled so far off of the road.
The Statesboro Herald and Georgia State Patrol report that the driver of the Chevy was fatally injured in the collision, and he died at the scene. He was identified by investigators as a 34-year-old man from Statesboro. It does not appear that any passengers were in the Chevy when the crash occurred.
