Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Collision in Camilla, Georgia
CAMILLA, GA. – According to an online news story reported by wctv.com, a suspect has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred in Camilla, Georgia. A vehicle hit and killed a man, and the driver left the scene, according to WCTV. Authorities later located the vehicle in a motel parking lot.*
Authorities received an emergency call regarding a pedestrian crash at about 4 a.m. Georgia State Patrol responded to the scene located at the crossing of U.S. Highway 19 and Old Georgia Highway 3. They found a pedestrian had been critically injured in a collision.
Witnesses at the scene reportedly indicated that the vehicle hit the pedestrian, and the driver took off, according to WCTV. The witnesses described the vehicle as a silver Dodge Charger. WCTV and Troopers report that the pedestrian tragically died at the scene. He was identified as a 24-year-old man.
Authorities released an alert to find the vehicle, and about 12 hours later, around 5 p.m. that same day, they received a call about a vehicle matching the description. The vehicle was located in a motel parking lot in Thomasville, Georgia, and it was covered with a tarp.
State Troopers, the Thomasville Police Department, and the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office found the driver in one of the motel’s rooms and placed him under arrest. WCTV did not list any charges filed against the driver. Authorities are still investigating the accident.
WCTV reports that the pedestrian accident is the 10th fatal traffic collision investigated so far in 2019 by Post 12 of the Georgia State Patrol.
