Georgia Woman Charged for Fatal South Carolina Vehicle Crash

JASPER COUNTY, SC. – According to an online news report published by, a Georgia woman has been criminally charged for a fatal vehicle crash that took place in Jasper County, South Carolina. The crash involved only one vehicle and resulted in the death of a passenger in the vehicle who was also from Georgia.*

The accident occurred around 4:40 a.m. in Jasper County, South Carolina. A 2007 Buick LaCrosse was headed east on Bellinger Hill Road when the vehicle left the right edge of the roadway. South Carolina Highway Patrol reports that the driver of the Buick then overcorrected, traveled back onto the road, then exited the left side. 

The Buick ended up crashing into an embankment off the left side of the roadway. Troopers and Bluffton Today report that a passenger in the back seat was ejected during impact and was killed. The Jasper County Coroner’s Office identified him as a 22-year-old man from Savannah, Georgia. Troopers reported that he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

In addition, an unidentified passenger in the front of the Buick suffered injuries, according to Bluffton Today, and emergency crews took him or her to Coastal Carolina Hospital. The passenger was then transferred to Memorial University Medical Center. Troopers said this passenger was wearing a seat belt. The extent of his or her injuries is not known. 

The driver of the Buick was also injured and taken to Memorial Health University Medical Center. She was identified as a 25-year-old woman from Richmond Hill, Georgia. South Carolina Highway Patrol and Bluffton Today report that she has been charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in death.
