Man Killed in Tractor-Trailer Crash in Orange County, Florida
ORANGE COUNTY, FL. – According to a news story reported online by tcpalm.com, a man was killed in a tractor-trailer crash in Orange County, Florida. Officials are still investigating the circumstances of the crash, but they have identified both people involved in the accident.*
The crash took place in the late afternoon on April 8 on State Road 520 in Orange County. At about 3:55 p.m. that day, a 2000 Buick (model not reported) was traveling north on Taylor Creek Road, while a tractor-trailer carrying a load of logs was traveling in the opposite direction on the same road.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, at the intersection with State Road 520, the southbound tractor-trailer attempted to make a left-hand turn into the eastbound lanes of S.R. 520. Troopers say in making the turn, the tractor-trailer drove into the path of the Buick, and the two vehicles collided. The Buick crashed into the trailer and became wedged under the trailer, Troopers report.
TC Palm and Florida Highway Patrol report that the driver of the Buick sustained fatal injuries in the crash and died at the scene. He was identified as a 59-year-old man from Saint Cloud, Florida. TC Palm did not say whether anyone else was inside the Buick when the crash happened.
The news report also did not say whether the driver of the tractor-trailer was injured. He was identified as a 56-year-old man from Vero Beach, Florida. It is not yet clear why the collision occurred or why the tractor-trailer driver turned in front of the Buick. TC Palm reports that charges are pending against this driver.
