Charges Pending in Vehicle Collision that Killed Man in Lee County, Florida

LEE COUNTY, FL. – According to an online news story posted at, a man was killed in a vehicle collision that occurred in Lee County, Florida. The man’s vehicle was struck by a driver who swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle, according to the news report. Florida Highway Patrol says that charges are pending.*

The collision occurred in the morning on April 10 on U.S. Highway 41 in Lee County. At approximately 8 a.m., a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling south on U.S. 41. Near the area of Commons Way, southbound traffic slowed for a stopped school bus, and a southbound 2018 Ford F-150 in front of the Chevy slowed and moved into the left turn lane. 

Florida Highway Patrol Troopers report that the Chevy driver swerved to avoid hitting the F-150 but hit the back of the F-150 and traveled over the concrete median on the highway. The Chevy then entered northbound traffic, where it crashed into a northbound 2006 Nissan 350-Z. 

Troopers and News-Press report that the driver of the Nissan was critically injured in the accident, and emergency responders took him to Lee Memorial Hospital for treatment. News-Press reports he died at the hospital from his injuries. He was identified as a 59-year-old man from Naples, Florida.

News-Press also reports that the driver of the F-150 and the driver of the Chevy both sustained injuries in the wreck and were also taken to Lee Memorial Hospital. Their injuries were described as minor. The driver of the F-150 was identified as a 53-year-old man from Estero, Florida. The driver of the Chevy was identified as a 33-year-old man from Estero. 

Troopers are continuing to investigate the crash, but News-Press says they have reported that charges are pending against the Chevy driver.
