Pedestrian Killed in Traffic Accident in Greenville County, South Carolina

GREENVILLE COUNTY, SC. – According to news reports posted online at,, and, a pedestrian was killed in a traffic accident in Greenville County, South Carolina. The accident stemmed from a car trying to pass another car and hitting the pedestrian in the process, according to the reports.*

South Carolina Highway Patrol reports that a driver has been charged in connection with the accident, which occurred in the early morning hours in Greenville County. At about 2 a.m., a 2005 Mercedes and a 2005 Chevrolet (models not reported) were traveling south on Bruce Road.

At some point, the Mercedes driver attempted to pass the Chevy, and Troopers say the Mercedes somehow struck a pedestrian on the road. The incident occurred while the Mercedes was passing the Chevy, and the Mercedes ended up swerving after the collision and hitting the side of the Chevy. The Mercedes then ran off the road and drove into a ditch. 

All three of the news reports and South Carolina Highway Patrol state that the pedestrian was fatally injured in the collision and died at the scene of the accident. The Greenville County Coroner’s Office identified the pedestrian as a 32-year-old resident of Greenville. 

It is unclear at this time how the accident happened. Troopers did not say what caused the Mercedes driver to run into the pedestrian. The reports indicate that neither the Mercedes driver nor the Chevy driver was injured in the collision. Troopers said the Mercedes driver has been charged with reckless driving.
