Hazlehurst, Georgia Man Hit and Killed in Pedestrian Accident
JEFF COUNTY, GA – According to an online news report at jdledger.com, a fifty seven year old man from Hazlehurst was hit and killed by a vehicle as he was walking on a darkened local roadway.*
A man from Hazlehurst, Georgia was stuck and killed as he was walking on South Cromartie Street. The accident occurred at nighttime, making it harder for the driver to see the pedestrian.
Per the Georgia State Patrol, the crash happened on March 24, 2019 where the man was walking in the middle of the southerly lane of the roadway. There were no street lights in the area where the man was walking and he was not properly in the roadway. The man was not wearing any reflective gear to alert drivers as to his presence.
The vehicle that struck the man was going south on South Cromartie Road and did not see the man because another car was approaching her automobile going north on South Cromartie.
The operator of the second automobile indicated that he witnessed the man walking in a southerly direction in the middle of the southbound lane of the roadway. As he witnessed the first car traveling in a southerly direction, he heard the impact of the crash where the pedestrian was hit.
It is not clear when the pedestrian died. There are no further details on the accident at this time. Charges are not expected to be filed against the woman who hit the pedestrian. The accident remains under investigation.
