Truck Driver Sustains Serious Injuries in Fiery Wreck involving a Hit and Run

April 06, 2019

STARKE, FL– According to an online news report at news4jax.com, a truck driver from Jacksonville, Florida is in the hospital after sustaining severe injuries in a Friday night crash involving an 18-wheeler on United States Highway 301.*

Per the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a man from Jacksonville, Florida was seriously injured in an accident involving two semi-trucks and a pickup truck.

The accident caused all lanes of United States Highway 301 to be closed for a number of hours as investigators and emergency personnel worked the scene.

According to the FHP, an unknown tractor trailer was going northbound on United States Highway 301 at close to 9:00 p.m. where it begun to swerve around in and out of his lane.  As a result, he hit another tractor trailer, a Freightliner, causing it to be pushed into a concrete barrier wall. Upon slamming into a barrier wall, the Freightliner was pushed forward and slammed into a Dodge Ram pickup truck and its trailer.  The Freightliner then caught fire given the impact of the crash with the Dodge.

The driver of the Freightliner, aged fifty two, was taken to the University of Florida Health in Gainesville, Florida where he is listed as in serious condition.

The driver if the pickup truck and their passenger, a coupe from Westminster, Massachusetts did not sustain injuries in the accident.

The unknown tractor trailer did not stay at the accident scene following the crash.  It is suspected that the tractor trailer may have been pulling a box trailer and may have damage to the right side of the vehicle.

According to the Bradford County Sheriff's Office, “southbound lanes of 301 reopened overnight, but northbound lanes remained still closed due to damage to the road from the fire and fuel spill. Traffic was being detoured through an unpaved road in the construction zone.”

There are no further details on the accident at this time.  The crash remains under investigation by local authorities.
