Head-On Collision Kills 58-Year-Old Man in Keystone Heights, Florida

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS, FL. — A man from Starke, Florida died, and two other people sustained significant injuries in a head-on collision in Keystone Heights according to News 4 Jax.The Florida Highway Patrol officers investigating the crash said the deadly collision happened on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. Troopers noted the scene of the accident to be on State Road 21 at the intersection of Southeast 33rd Street, near the Bradford-Clay county lines. The responding troopers still have the matter under investigation. They have not said whether they will issue charges in the incident.*

The driver of a Ford Expedition sports utility vehicle crashed head-on into a Dodge Ram pickup on Thursday. The vehicles were going in opposite directions at the time of the accident. Law enforcement investigators are looking into why the driver, noted by troopers to be 76-years-old, lost control over the SUV while heading north on State Road 21. The driver then went off the road traveling west and returned to the road headed south. The Dodge Ram, occupied by a driver and passenger, was going south when this happened in front of them. Neither driver could avoid a collision.

The 58-year-old driver from Starke, Florida sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene of the accident. His passenger, a 37-year-old woman from Live Oak, Florida was also hurt in the crash. Medics took her to UF Health Shands Hospital in located Gainesville with injuries described by authorities as dangerous.  

The 76-year-old operator of the Ford SUV also suffered injuries in the crash. Authorities described those injuries as critical, and first responders transported him to a local hospital, although it was not clear which hospital.
