Wrong Way Drunk Driver Causes Head-On Crash on I-275 in Pinellas County, Florida
PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol are still trying to determine where a woman they suspect to have been driving while drunk entered I-275 going the wrong way. The suspected drunk driver crashed head-on with a motorist. That person suffered massive injuries, and her current medical status is unknown. The collision happened at 3:15 in the morning on I-275 according to WFLA.com.The wrong way driver sustained minor injuries and was placed under arrest. She was held on bond. The crash is still being investigated. *
Florida Highway Patrol troopers reported that a 37-year-old woman who was operating a 2017 Subaru Forrester crashed into a 24-year-old woman who was operating a 2013 Buick Verano. The 24-year-old woman is from Clearwater, Florida. Troopers allege that the woman they arrested was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of I-275. First responders located the wreck just south of the Gandy Boulevard exit from I-275. Medical personnel raced the 24-year-old woman to St. Anthony’s Hospital. Authorities did not release her current medical condition.
Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle going the wrong way on I-275 who allegedly caused the accident went to Bayfront Health Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The hospital treated and released her. Florida Highway Patrol troopers placed the woman in custody and charged her with driving under the influence with serious injury, reckless driving with serious injury, and driving the wrong way according to the preliminary police report documenting the crash.
Florida Highway Patrol officers booked the woman into Pinellas County jail on those charges. She was held on $10,000.00 bond.
