Four Children Injured in Pedestrian Accident in Volusia Beach, Florida
VOLUSIA BEACH, FL – According to an online news report at news-journalonline.com, a man strikes four children on Volusia Beach with his vehicle.*
For over a minute, a man waited till his path was clear before making a U-turn on State Road A1A. For reasons that are not clear at this time, he accelerated eastbound towards the ocean, striking four children on the beach.
The man, aged eighty two, went across two lanes of State Road A1A where he drove through a parking lot and hit into a wooden fence before his car dropped twenty feet onto a beach with children.
After his car plummeted onto the beach, he ran over a five year old girl and hit three other children, per the Florida Highway Patrol. The accident occurred near the intersection of State Route A1A and Roberta Drive.
The entire incident was caught on camera by a local restaurant, which is a small distance from where the man tried to make a U-turn.
The five year old girl that was run over was taken by emergency helicopter to the University of Florida Heath Shands Hospital located in Gainesville, Florida, She is currently being treated for serious injuries. The three other children and the driver were taken by ambulance to local hospitals where they are being treated for minor injuries.
It has been reported that the male driver, who is from Yarmouth, Massachusetts, was placed in the intensive care unit at AdventHealth Daytona Beach. The details of his condition are not currently available at this time.
At the time of the accident, it did not appear that the driver had serious injuries. He was visibility shaken from the accident that caused injuries to four children. The driver indicated that he lost control of his vehicle after attempting to make a U-turn.
