Fatal Trucking Accident in South Fulton County, Georgia
SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, GA – According to an online news report at wsbtv.com, police have charged a truck driver for causing a deadly accident in South Fulton County, Georgia.*
A man, aged forty-eight, died after crashing into a tractor trailer. According to police, the 18-wheeler pulled out in front of traffic and blocked the roadway as it attempted to make a left turn. The man was taken to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the tractor trailer, a man from Kansas, is currently facing charges of second-degree vehicular homicide, obstruction of an intersection, and failure to yield.
People in the area note that the accident would not have occurred had there been a traffic light located at the intersection where the accident happened.
"It's very dangerous. We sit here all the time, and every time, we're the ones that call 911. And every time, we tell them, 'We need a red light, we need a red light,'" said a local resident who witnessed the accident.
This local resident witnessed the accident and stated that she sees accidents at this dangerous intersection rather frequently. She noted that the man driving the truck was overcome by emotion following the accident.
"I hope (we can convince Department of Transportation (DOT) to do something) because we're really tired of seeing stuff like this," she said.
A spokeswoman for the DOT noted that they will be performing a traffic study at the dangerous intersection to determine what additional safety features may be necessary.
The man who was killed was about to celebrate his twenty eighth wedding anniversary with his wife this May.
There are no further details on the accident at this time. The crash remains under investigation by local police.
