A Man is Charged with DUI and Homicide by Vehicle After Fatal Accident
NORCROSS, GA – According to an online news report at patch.com, a driver is being charged with DUI and homicide by vehicle after the individual he struck was declared brain dead and died.*
According to the Gwinnett County Police Department, a man is facing homicide by vehicle and DUI charges after striking a man in another vehicle on Jimmy Carter Boulevard at the intersection of Singleton Road in Norcross, Georgia.
The victim is a thirty seven year old man from Duluth, Georgia. The at fault driver is a thirty one year old man from Lawrenceville, Georgia.
According to the news report, the at fault driver was initially charged with reckless driving, driving under the influence, and serious injury by a vehicle due to tailgating. Following the death of the accident victim, he is now facing homicide by vehicle charges in the first degree.
Pursuant to an investigation of the accident, the at fault driver was going west on Jimmy Carter Boulevard and approached an intersection with Singleton Road in the leftbound lane. The man was driving a Lexus LS400.
The victim was driving a Toyota Carolla and was stopped at the intersection of Jimmy Carter Boulevard going west at the Singleton Road traffic light. He was in the middle lane of the roadway. As the at fault driver approached the intersection, he struck the front of the victim’s Lexus. Both cars flipped around and rested in the southern lanes of Singleton Road, per local police. Both drivers sustained serious injuries. The victim tragically passed away.
There are no further details available on the crash at this time. The accident remains under investigation by local police.
