Van Strikes Pedestrian on State Road 535 in Orange County, Florida
ORANGE COUNTY, FL. – According to an online news report from wftv.com, a van struck a pedestrian in Orange County, Florida. The victim was seriously injured in the crash and died of her injuries at a hospital, WFTV says. Florida Highway Patrol is encouraging anyone with information to contact authorities.*
The accident happened in the early morning on State Road 535 in Orange County. WFTV and Florida Highway Patrol say that a pedestrian was crossing State Road 535 at the intersection with Meadow Creek Drive at approximately 3 a.m., when a passing van struck her. This occurred in what the news report described as a tourist district of the county.
The make and model of the van were not reported by WFTV. It is not yet clear why the accident happened, the news story says. The report from WFTV says that Florida Highway Patrol has not yet determined whether the van driver or the pedestrian had the right-of-way at the time of the collision.
The pedestrian was critically injured in the collision, according to WFTV, and responding officials called for a medical helicopter. WFTV reports the pedestrian was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where she later died of her injuries. She was identified in the WFTV report as a 24-year-old woman from Orlando.
WFTV did not identify the driver of the van, and the report did not say whether he or she was injured in the accident. The report also did not indicate whether there were any passengers in the van at the time of the collision. The accident caused the roadway to close for about four hours.
Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident, and Troopers ask anyone who has information about the events of the collision to contact authorities by calling (407) 737-2213.
