15-Year-Old Driver Killed in Vehicle Crash in Deltona, Florida

DELTONA, FL. – According to an online news report published at, a 15-year-old driver was killed in a vehicle collision in Deltona, Florida. The teenager was reportedly a student at Pine Ridge High School and was on his way to school when the accident occurred.*

A 2006 Hyundai Elantra was traveling east on Howland Boulevard and attempted to turn into the entrance to Pine Ridge High School. The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office says the Hyundai drove into the path of a Nissan Pathfinder that was traveling west, and the two vehicles collided head-on. A westbound Nissan pickup truck then crashed into the back of the Pathfinder. 

Deputies and ClickOrlando report that the driver of the Hyundai, a 15-year-old boy, was fatally injured in the crash. The sheriff’s office stated that he was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. 

The news report said the boy usually rode to school with another student, but he drove himself that morning because he was running late. His parents reportedly did not know he was driving. Pine Ridge High School confirmed the teen was a sophomore at the school. 

The 34-year-old driver of the Pathfinder and a 33-year-old passenger were injured in the accident, according to ClickOrlando. The driver’s injuries were described as a hip injury, and the passenger’s injuries were described as non-life threatening. Two children were also riding in the pathfinder, and they were not injured, the news report says.

The driver of the Nissan pickup sustained minor injuries, ClickOrlando says.
