Man from Cairo Dies in Accident on Highway 84

Cairo, GA – according to, an accident on Highway 84 resulted in a motorcyclist’s death.*

The individual killed was a 36-year-old man who was traveling westerly on Highway 84 on his motorcycle where he collided with a gold SUV.  The Trooper who responded to the collision stated that the Cairo man was involved in the accident because the woman, aged 67, driving the SUV failed to yield to oncoming traffic when she tried to turn left from Highway 84 to 103th Street Southeast. 

"He had a green light and she had a green light, but she was in that turning lane and has to yield to traffic," a local trooper stated. "She failed to yield, she turned right in front of him and then that's when he hit the side of her SUV."

The woman in the SUV was travelling east on Highway 84 to drop off her granddaughter at the local elementary school when the accident happened, which was at approximately 7:45 a.m.

The man in the motorcycle was taken to an area hospital but died en route at approximately 8:06 a.m. 

A trooper from the from the Georgia State Patrol who had been handling the accident was dispatched at the scene at approximately 8:07 a.m. The woman pulled over in a local parking lot following her SUV’s impact with the motorcyclist.  

The trooper noted that there may be charges filed against the woman driver, which are pending the investigation.  A specialized collision reconstruction team (SCRT) will aid in the investigation to determine if charges should be filed.

"They'll be the ones to make charges if they see charges are fit for this accident," the local trooper said of the SCRT unit.  The will determine the cause of the crash.  It should be noted that it is not sure whether the decedent was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.  

As a result of the accident, the easterly lane of Highway 84 was closed for about two hours as authorities cleaned up the crash site and conducted an investigation thereof.
