Pedestrian Struck, Killed by Vehicle in Spartanburg County, South Carolina

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC. – According to an online news report posted at, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. The victim has been identified, and South Carolina Highway Patrol has reportedly indicated that the driver of the vehicle will not be charged.* 

The accident took place in the late evening on South Carolina Highway 417 in Spartanburg County. South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the scene near Reidville, South Carolina, at about 9:45 p.m. that day on a report of a pedestrian accident. Troopers and Fox Carolina report that a northbound vehicle struck a man who was walking along SC 417.

The report from Fox Carolina did not indicate whether the pedestrian was walking in a northbound lane of travel or was walking on the shoulder of the highway. It is unclear from the report how the accident took place. 

Fox Carolina states that the pedestrian was fatally injured in the collision, and the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Officer pronounced him deceased at the scene. Officials identified him as a 30-year-old man from Woodruff, South Carolina. The coroner’s office stated that it would conduct further investigation into the manner of death.

The driver of the vehicle was not identified in the Fox Carolina report, and no description of the vehicle was provided. The report did not say whether the driver or anyone else who might have bene riding in the vehicle was injured. 

Fox Carolina reports that South Carolina Highway Patrol indicated the driver would not be charged. No further information was provided about the status of the investigation.
