Rear-End Crash Kills Female on Tricycle on Pine Island, Florida
PINE ISLAND, FL. – According to an online news report published by news-press.com, a rear-end collision on Pine Island, Florida, killed a woman riding a tricycle. Officials have not yet identified the victim. Florida Highway Patrol has reported that the driver of the vehicle involved has been charged.*
The accident occurred on Pine Island. At about 5:20 p.m., a woman was riding a tricycle north on Stringfellow Road. At the intersection with Lolly Road, the woman attempted to make a left turn. Florida Highway Patrol reports that a 2018 Kia Rio traveling behind the tricycle did not slow down as the rider tried to turn and ended up striking the back of the tricycle.
The report from News-Press did not indicate any potential reasons why the Kia driver did not slow down. No information was reported about the official cause of the collision.
News-Press reports that the female who was riding the tricycle was critically injured in the accident, and Florida Highway Patrol said she did not survive. Officials reportedly pronounced her deceased at the scene of the accident. She was not identified in the News-Press report.
It is not clear from the News-Press report if the Kia driver was injured. The report did not say whether any passengers were in the Kia. Florida Highway Patrol and News-Press report that the Kia driver was charged with careless driving for the crash. Troopers identified him as a 71-year-old man from Bokeelia, Florida.
