March 16, 2019

BAY COUNTY, FL. – According to a news story reported online at mypanhandle.com,Florida Highway Patrol is searching for a driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Bay County, Florida. The driver struck a man on a scooter and left the scene. The man’s family is hoping the driver either comes forward or is apprehended.*

The crash occurred at approximately 8 p.m. on March 10 on Highway 22 in Bay County. The news story states that a 43-year-old man from Wewahitchka, Florida, was riding a scooter on Highway 22, near the Gulf County Line, when he was struck by a car. The driver of the car did not stop, leaving the man in the roadway, where he was subsequently struck by a second vehicle, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The man’s family says he was on his way back home from helping his mother with car trouble. He was a father to three children, a fishing enthusiast, and a caring person, his family says.

“My uncle was a very loving, kind-hearted person, and he would never leave without hugging your neck and telling you that he loves you,” his niece told reporters. “For someone to just leave him, to hit him and leave him like that, he didn’t deserve that.”

Florida Highway Patrol is still searching for the missing driver. The news report did not describe the vehicle or the driver. While authorities still search for the driver, the man’s family members want the driver to understand the grief caused and urge the driver to come forward.

“Would you be ok with it?” the man’s niece asked of the driver. “Are you really going to be able to live with yourself knowing somebody is dead because of your actions?”
