One Killed, One Injured in Vehicle Collision in Alachua County, Florida
ALACHUA COUNTY, FL. – According to an online news report posted by wctv.com, one person was killed, and another was injured in a vehicle collision that occurred in Alachua County, Florida. The cause of the collision has not been officially determined. Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating.*
The accident happened on March 9, but the news report does not indicate the time of the collision. Florida Highway Patrol and WCTV report that a fatal accident happened on State Road 27, near the area of County Road 234 in Alachua County. An unidentified vehicle was reportedly traveling west on State Road 26 and crossed into the eastbound lanes.
Troopers say the westbound vehicle drove into the path of an eastbound Chevrolet Tahoe, and the two vehicles crashed into each other head-on. The westbound vehicle then overturned on the shoulder of the roadway.
It is unclear at this time what caused the driver of the westbound vehicle to leave his lane of travel. Troopers did not provide any information about the potential cause of the accident or the circumstances surrounding the accident.
According to Florida Highway Patrol and WCTV, the driver of the westbound vehicle was severely injured in the accident, and responding officials pronounced him deceased at the scene of the crash. He was identified as a 36-year-old man.
The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe was also seriously injured, according to WCTV, and first responders transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment. WCTV identified him as a 39-year-old man and stated that he was listed in critical condition. No further information was available about the crash at the time of the WCTV report’s publishing.
