Interstate 85 is Back Open Following Truck Crash that Was Cleared Close to Chateau Elan

Gwinnett County, GA – according to, I-85 is once again open as drivers were forced to follow alternative routes or face significant traffic delays for hours due to an accident close to Chateau Elan last Thursday.*

The Georgia Department of Transportation’s (“GDOT”) 511 traffic app reported an accident on Interstate 85 at Georgia Highway 211 that involved a passenger car and a truck.  This accident caused all northern bound lanes to be closed. The app apparently provided that the accident scene was not expected to be opened until after 10:00 p.m.  One lane was reported to have been reopened at around 9:15 p.m.  According to GDOT, the highway was opened at approximately 9:30 p.m.

The Georgia Department of Transportation’s 511 Georgia traffic app reported a wreck on I-85 at Ga. Highway 211 involving a car and a truck had all northbound lanes closed. The app said the scene wasn't expected to be clear until about 10:15 p.m., but one lane reopened around 9:15 p.m. and GDOT announced the crash site was cleared at 9:33 p.m.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., the app demonstrated that there was heavy traffic in the northern lanes of Interstate from the accident scene south to the interstate’s 985 split.  

GDOT noted on Twitter that there was also a disabled car in the right northern lane of Interstate 85 at Hamilton Mill Road following the clearing of the above-stated crash.  This was resolved at approximately 10:30 p.m. and the road was subsequently reopened to traffic.
