Two People Killed in Car Wreck in Blythewood, South Carolina
BLYTHEWOOD, SC. – According to an online news story from wistv.com, two people were killed in a car wreck in Blythewood, South Carolina. The accident occurred on Interstate 77 and involved two vehicles, according to the report. The victims have been identified investigators handling the case.*
The accident took place in the evening on March 6 on I-77 North in Blythewood. South Carolina Highway Patrol and WIS report that at about 6:45 p.m. that day, a 2008 Nissan Altima was headed northbound on I-77 and slowed down due to traffic ahead. Troopers state that a 2005 Toyota SUV (model not reported) then crashed into the back of the Nissan.
It is not clear at this time why the driver of the Toyota rear-ended the Nissan. Troopers were not reported to have provided any information about the circumstances that might have contributed to the wreck.
A passenger in the Nissan was fatally injured in the crash, according to authorities and WIS, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The Richland County Coroner’s Office identified her as a 68-year-old woman from Columbia, South Carolina. The report from WIS said she was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
The driver of the Nissan also sustained critical injuries in the wreck, according to the report. Paramedics took him to Prisma Health Richland Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries later that evening. The coroner’s office identified him as a 63-year-old man from Columbia. WIS said he was not wearing a seat belt.
South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating. The WIS report stated that no information about potential charges had been released.
