DUNEDIN, FL. – According to an online news story posted by leaderpost.com, a pedestrian was killed in a collision with a vehicle in Dunedin, Florida. The victim has been identified by officials, but the vehicle driver’s name has not been released. Investigators have provided some information about the cause of the accident, included in the report.*

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and the Regina Leader-Post report that at about 7:30 p.m. on March 6, a pedestrian was walking in the area of Bayshore Boulevard and Cedar Street in Dunedin. Deputies said she was stopped on a curb at the intersection and was preparing to cross Bayshore Boulevard. According to the sheriff’s office and the news report, the pedestrian then walked off the curb, and an oncoming vehicle hit her.

The vehicle was reportedly a 1998 Toyota Camry that had been driving south on Bayshore Boulevard. Deputies did not say why the pedestrian stepped into the roadway. They reported, according to the Regina Leader-Post, that she was not inside a crosswalk, but the report did not say whether a crosswalk was in or near the intersection.

Deputies and the Regina Leader-Post stated that the pedestrian was critically injured in the collision, and she was declared dead at the site of the crash. Officials identified her as a 76-year-old woman from Estevan, Florida. The news reported stated that her family had been notified of the accident.

The Toyota driver was not identified. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating. Deputies were reported as saying they did not believe that speeding or impairment contributed to the accident.
