Seven Students Injured in School Bus Crash in Ellenton, Florida

ELLENTON, FL. – According to an online news story published at, seven students were injured in a school bus crash in Ellenton, Florida. The bus belonged to the Manatee School System and reportedly collided with another vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle was cited in connection with the wreck, according to the news report.* 

Florida Highway Patrol and Patch report that at approximately 8:25 a.m. on March 7, a Manatee School Bus that was carrying 62 students was involved in a collision with a 2013 Chrysler minivan in the parking lot of the Covered Bridge Estates, near Shenandoah Circle in Ellenton. Troopers said the Chrysler was headed west through the parking lot, and the bus was parked westward facing.

The passenger’s side of the Chrysler collided with the left side of the bus, according to Patch. The Patch story says it was not clear if the bus’s lights were flashing at the time. 

Though Troopers reported that the crash was “minor,” seven students who had been riding on the bus were taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital. The students’ injuries were described as not serious by Florida Highway Patrol and Patch. None of the students was identified. 

Florida Highway Patrol identified the driver of the Chrysler as a 67-year-old woman from Davenport, Florida. She was cited for careless driving, according to Troopers and the Patch report. The driver of the school bus was identified as a 54-year-old woman from Ellenton. The bus driver was not cited. 

Troopers did not say why the Chrysler crashed into the school bus. No statement from the school system was included in the Patch report.
