Motorcyclist Killed in Collision in Coweta County, Georgia
COWETA COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news report from times-herald.com, a motorcyclist was killed in a vehicle collision in Coweta County, Georgia. The victim has not been identified at this time, and authorities have not officially determined the cause of the accident.*
The accident occurred on the evening of March 7, but the report from the Newnan Times-Herald did not specify what time. Georgia State Patrol and the Newnan Times-Herald report that a motorcycle was traveling west on Gordon Road and somehow crossed over the centerline of the roadway. Troopers stated the motorcycle entered the eastbound lane of travel and struck an eastbound tow truck head-on.
This took place in the area of Gordon Road between Sid Hunter Road and Highway 54. Upon impact, the motorcycle caught on fire, and the fire spread to the tow truck. The Newnan Times-Herald reports that Troopers said the motorcyclist was killed in the collision, and officials pronounced him deceased at the scene. He was identified only as a male from Senoia, Georgia.
The driver of the tow truck, who was not identified, was able to exit the truck. He or she was not injured in the crash, Troopers said. Georgia State Patrol reportedly stated that speed was a probably factor in the collision, but Troopers did not elaborate on this information.
The accident site was blocked off for approximately three hours as crews extinguished the fire, investigated at the scene, and cleared the wreckage. Troopers did not release additional information before the publishing of the Newnan Times-Herald article.
