One Killed, Four Injured in Vehicle Accident Outside Savannah, GA, Restaurant
SAVANNAH, GA. – According to an online news report posted at wsav.com, one person was killed and four people were injured in a vehicle accident that took place outside of a restaurant in Savannah, Georgia. The deceased victim was only 19 years old, according to the news report.*
At about 12:30 p.m. on March 7, a vehicle (make and model not reported) was headed south on Whitaker Street in Savannah. Another vehicle (make and model not reported) was headed west on Victory Drive at the same time. At the intersection of the two streets, the Savannah Police Department says that one of the vehicles ran a red light. It is not clear which vehicle had the red light.
The front of the southbound vehicle crashed into the passenger’s side of the westbound vehicle, after which police say the two vehicles spun and collided with a light pole, a traffic box, and the wall of the El Coyote restaurant located at the intersection. Both vehicles came to a stop on the wall of the restaurant.
The Savannah Fire Department and WSAV reported that multiple people were trapped after the collision, and four people were seriously injured. The injured included a 41-year-old passenger of the southbound vehicle, another passenger in the southbound vehicle, the 24-year-old driver of the westbound vehicle, and a 23-year-old passenger in the westbound vehicle. The 44-year-old driver of the southbound vehicle was not seriously injured, WSAV said.
WSAV also reported that a 19-year-old girl who was riding in the westbound vehicle was killed in the collision.
The Savannah Police Department reported that the cause of the collision appeared to be a medical emergency suffered by one of the drivers. Officers did not say which driver.
