Fatal Motorcycle Accident in Tampa, Florida on March 6, 2019
TAMPA, FL. – According to an online news report published at tbreporter.com, a man was killed in a motorcycle collision in Tampa, Florida. The crash happened on Channelside Drive in Tampa, and the man was reportedly thrown from the bike. Identifying information has been released by investigators.*
The accident occurred at approximately 9:15 a.m. on March 6, 2019 where Channelside Drive intersects with South Florida Avenue in Tampa. The Tampa Police Department and the Tampa Bay Reporter state that a 23-year-old man from Tampa was riding a motorcycle eastbound on Channelside Drive was in a left-turn-only lane when he came to the intersection with South Florida Avenue.
At the same time, another vehicle was in the next lane over, which was marked for either left turns or for travel straight on Channelside Drive. Police state that the second vehicle started to turn left onto South Florida Avenue at the intersection, while the motorcyclist proceeded forward, and the two collided.
The Tampa Police Department and the Tampa Bay Reporter indicated that the motorcyclist was ejected from the bike during the crash, and he died at the scene. Police reported that he had been traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the collision, but officers did not say how fast he was going or why he tried to drive straight in a left-turn lane.
The accident is still under investigation, but the Tampa Bay Reporter noted that police had said charges were not likely. No further information about the accident was reported at the time the news article was published online.
