Vehicle Accident Reported in Augusta, Georgia on March 7, 2019

March 10, 2019

AUGUSTA, GA. – According to an online news report from, a vehicle accident was reported in Augusta, Georgia. The accident happened on Mike Padgett Highway, and little information about the collision had been reported at the time of the WJBF article’s publishing. Injuries were reported, but it is unclear how seriously people were injured.*

The accident occurred in the early morning on March 7, 2019. Officers responded to the scene at Mike Padgett Highway and West Fraser Mill in Augusta at about 4:30 a.m. and found that a vehicle collision had occurred. It is not yet clear how the accident happened or how many vehicles were involved.

The accident caused multiple lanes to close down, which led to traffic delays in the area. The article from WJBF said that injuries were reported by officials at the scene, but it was not clear how many people were injured or how seriously the victims were injured.

Augusta is located in Richmond County, Georgia, on the east side of the state. From 2012 to 2016, traffic collisions in Richmond County rose significantly, based on information from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. In 2012, a little more than 300 traffic accidents happened in the county in total. Total collisions jumped to 1,315 the following year, then soared up to 8,879 in 2014. In 2016, traffic collisions totaled 9,957 in Richmond County.

Perhaps counterintuitively, as the total number of traffic collisions was rising during these five years, the number of deadly accidents was actually falling. Forty fatal accidents occurred in the county in 2012, and 17 fatal accidents happened in 2016.
