Officers Searching for Driver Involved in Gas Station Hit-and-Run in Macon, GA
MACON, GA. – According to an online news story posted at wgxa.tv, law enforcement officers in Macon, Georgia are searching for the driver involved in a hit-and-run collision at a gas station. A vehicle struck a pedestrian in the parking lot of the gas station and left the scene. Police are asking for help from the public in locating the driver.*
At approximately 3:45 p.m. on March 6, a 54-year-old man was using an air pump on his vehicle at downtown Macon’s Marathon gas station on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. As the man was placing air into his tires, another vehicle reversed near the air pump and struck the man, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say the man became pinned between his own vehicle and the other vehicle, after which the driver of the other vehicle shifted into drive and left the station. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and WGXA report that the man was injured in the incident, and an ambulance took him to a local hospital. The sheriff’s office stated that the man was in stable condition at the hospital.
At the time of the WGXA report, deputies were still looking for the missing driver. They said the vehicle might be a Honda, tan or brown in color. Information gathered at the scene led deputies to believe the driver was an older male with a white beard, according to WGXA. Deputies said it was possible the man did not know he hit a person.
Anyone with potential information about the accident or the whereabouts of the driver is encouraged to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office by calling (478) 751-7500. Tipsters can also provide information anonymously by calling Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at (877) 68-CRIME.
