Head-On Crash Causes One Fatality in Cobb County, Georgia
COBB COUNTY, GA. – According to a news story posted online at ajc.com, a head-on vehicle crash caused one fatality in Cobb County, Georgia. The accident appears to have started with a vehicle leaving its lane of travel, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.*
On the morning of March 6, a 2008 Buick Lucerne was headed east on South Cobb Drive in Marietta, Georgia. Police officers reported that near Barclay Circle, a westbound 2015 Kia Soul crossed into the east lanes of South Cobb Drive and hit the Buick head-on. The article from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution did not say what might have caused the driver of the Kia to veer into opposite traffic.
Officials and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution report that the Buick driver, a 56-year-old resident of Marietta, was killed in the collision. The Kia driver, a 24-year-old resident of Marietta, was transported by ambulance to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in serious condition, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The nature of the Kia driver’s injuries was not reported.
After the collision, South Cobb Drive was completely shut down in the area of Dobbins Air Reserve Base. The road remained closed for about three hours while investigators worked at the scene and crews cleared the wreckage and debris.
Police are still completing an investigation of the accident, and further information will likely be released at a later time. Officers were not reported to have said whether charges were expected in the case.
