One Killed, One Injured in Car Accident in Hillsborough County, Florida

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL. – According to a news report published online at, one person was killed, and one person was seriously injured in a car accident in Hillsborough County, Florida. An infant was also involved in the crash, according to the news report, but was not injured.* 

Florida Highway Patrol states that at approximately 11:15 a.m. on March 5, the driver of a 2009 Nissan Sentra headed west on State Road 60 tried to change into another lane close to Luckasavage Road. Troopers indicate that in attempting the lane change, the Nissan driver lost control and crossed the center lane of State Road 60.  

According to Florida Highway Patrol and the Tampa Bay Reporter, the Nissan continued into eastbound traffic and hit a 2018 Chevrolet Cruze head-on. The Tampa Bay Reporter indicated that the driver of the Nissan, 77-year-old woman from Lakeland, Florida, was fatally injured in the head-on wreck, and she died at the scene. 

The driver of the Chevrolet, 24-year-old woman from Mulberry, Florida, was injured in the crash, and paramedics transported her to Tampa General Hospital for treatment. The Tampa Bar Reporter states that she is in serious condition. 

In addition, Florida State Patrol Troopers said that an infant passenger was in the Chevrolet, but the child did not sustain any injuries. The cause of the collision has not been officially determined, and investigation is ongoing. It is not clear what caused the driver of the Nissan to lose control of her vehicle. No additional information about this wreck was available at the time of the Tampa Bay Reporter article.
