Woman Killed in Head-On Crash in Plant City, Florida

PLANT CITY, FL. – According to an online news story reported by, a woman was killed in a head-on vehicle crash in Plant City, Florida. Another woman was seriously injured in the crash, according to authorities.*  

The crash occurred in the late morning on March 5 on State Road 60 in Plant City. Florida Highway Patrol and the Tampa Bay Times report that at approximately 11:15 a.m., a 2009 Nissan Sentra was traveling west on State Road 60, when the driver attempted to change lanes near Luckasavage Road. Troopers state that the Nissan driver lost control while trying to move into another lane. 

The Nissan then traveled over the center median of the roadway and entered oncoming traffic, according to Troopers, where it crashed head-on into a an eastbound 2018 Chevrolet Cruze. Florida State Patrol did not indicate what might have caused the Nissan driver to lose control of the vehicle. 

The Tampa Bay Times reported that the driver of the Nissan suffered critical injuries in the collision, and officials pronounced her dead at the scene. She was identified as a 77-year-old woman from Lakeland, Florida. 

The driver of the Chevy suffered serious injuries in the wreck, and first responders took her to Tampa General Hospital for emergency medical care. She was identified as a 24-year-old woman from Mulberry, Florida. Her current medical status was not included in the report from the Tampa Bay Times. 

Florida State Patrol reported that an infant was also riding in the Chevy, and the baby was not harmed in the wreck. No further information was released in the news report.
