Tractor-Trailer Overturns in Twiggs County, Georgia
TWIGGS COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news report posted by wgxa.tv, a tractor-trailer overturned in Twiggs County, Georgia. The collision took place on Interstate 16 and resulted in a fuel spill on the interstate that shut down one side of the roadway. It is unclear if anyone was injured in the accident.*
The accident took place in the late morning on March 5 on Interstate 16 in Twiggs County. The Georgia Department of Transportation said the wreck occurred around 11 a.m. at mile marker 29 on the westbound side of I-16. A tractor-trailer somehow overturned on the interstate.
It is not clear at this time what caused the collision or what factors might have led to the tractor-trailer overturning. Early reports from WGXA say that two tractor-trailers were involved. Photos from the scene posted to the WGXA website show skid marks in the left shoulder and one rig overturned on the right side of the roadway.
After the collision, diesel fuel spilled from at least one truck onto the roadway. Officials responding shut down all of the westbound lanes of the interstate to clear the scene and perform an investigation. It is not clear if anyone suffered injuries in the wreck. WGXA stated that an ambulance was at the scene at one point, but the report did not say whether anyone was transported to a hospital.
The Georgia DOT expected that it would take crews until about 6 p.m. to reopen the roadway. The Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and is investigating the accident. No additional information was reported in the WGXA article.
