Florida Man Killed in Crash with Tractor-Trailer in South Carolina
DILLON COUNTY, SC. – According to an online news story reported at wmbfnews.com, a Florida man was killed in a vehicle crash with a tractor-trailer in South Carolina. The collision happened on Interstate 95 in Dillon County, South Carolina. The circumstances of the crash have not been fully determined.*
At approximately 3:05 p.m. on Thursday, February 28, South Carolina Highway Patrol Troopers were called to the scene of a vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Dillon County. They arrived to find that a tractor-trailer and a Ford Explorer had collided near the exit to Highway 38. It appeared from early investigation that the two vehicles crashed as the Explorer was exiting the interstate onto Highway 38.
It is not clear at this time how the accident happened. Troopers did not report any information about the events that might have caused the crash in the WMBF News report.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, who was not identified, was not injured in the accident, according to WMBF News. However, WMBF News and county officials report that the driver of the Explorer sustained life-threatening injuries. The Dillon County Coroner’s Office stated that the driver, an 81-year-old man from Florida, did not survive.
Troopers reported that both drivers had been wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. It did not appear from the news report that any passengers were riding in the tractor-trailer or the Explorer.
South Carolina Highway Patrol is still completing its investigation of the accident, and Troopers had not reported further information at the time the report from WMBF News was posted.
