Woman Killed While Checking on Another Motorist in Gwinnett County, Georgia
GWINNETT COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news report published by gwinnettdailypost.com, a woman was killed while checking on another motorist who had wrecked on Interstate 85 in Gwinnett County, Georgia. The driver who hit her has reportedly been charged with vehicular homicide.*
At approximately 1 a.m. on March 3rd, a Ford Explorer traveling on I-85 North in Gwinnett County crashed into the median wall. A passing motorist saw the collision and stopped her car to check on the driver of the Explorer. Gwinnett Police say that’s when a northbound Ford Fusion crashed into the Explorer and the woman’s car.
According to police and the Gwinnett Daily Post, the woman was standing outside of her vehicle and was struck by it in the impact with the Fusion. Police reported that the woman sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. She was identified as a 20-year-old woman from Dacula, Georgia.
The driver of the Fusion was reportedly taken into police custody at the scene. Police have identified him as a 27-year-old man from Grayson, Georgia, and officers reported that he has been charged with vehicular homicide in the first degree, driving under the influence, reckless driving, and failure to drive in a single lane.
The driver of the Explorer, a 64-year-old man from Lawrenceville, Georgia, has also been charged, according to police. He received medical treatment for unknown injuries sustained in the accident, and officers indicated he was charged with driving under the influence for his initial collision into the median wall.
The Gwinnett Police Department indicates that this is an ongoing investigation, and no additional information has been released.
