Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle on I-285 in DeKalb County, Georgia
DEKALB COUNTY, GA. – According to a news story posted online by ajc.com, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on Interstate 285 in DeKalb County, Georgia. The accident happened near what is known as Spaghetti Junction and caused a traffic backup that affected both DeKalb County and Gwinnett County, Georgia. The victim’s name has not been released at this time.*
The DeKalb County Police Department was able to provide little information about the accident, which happened on February 26, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“When officers arrived, they found the body [of] an individual on the interstate,” DeKalb Police Sgt. J.D. Spencer was quoted as saying by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigators are working to determine exactly what happened.”
Police reported that the victim was struck by at least one vehicle on the interstate near Spaghetti Junction on I-285 West, according to the news story. Officers reportedly stated that no one had yet been arrested in connection with the collision. The news report from the Atlanta-Journal Constitution did not identify the victim.
Officials closed I-285 on the westbound side at approximately 5 a.m. on February 26. The closures caused long traffic delays in DeKalb County on I-285 and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. Delays were also reported on Interstate 85 in Gwinnett County due to the accident. The interstate was completely reopened after more than three hours of closures.
The DeKalb County Police Department is still investigating the accident, and officers had not released further information at the time of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution report.
