School Bus Hits Student in Thomasville, Georgia

March 03, 2019

THOMASVILLE, GA. – According to an online news story from wctv.tv, a school bus hit a student in Thomasville, Georgia. The accident happened in the parking lot of charter school in Thomasville, and the student reportedly went to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.*

The accident happened at about 8:30 a.m. according to WCTV. An 18-year-old student was walking through the parking lot of the Bishop Hall Charter School in Thomasville as a school bus was pulling through the parking lot. WCTV reports that another pedestrian called out to the student that the bus did not appear to be slowing down.

Georgia State Patrol and WCTV state that the bus driver was distracted by something and not looking forward at the time. When the driver looked back up, it was too late to brake in time to avoid the collision, WCTV said. The bus then ran into the student.

WCTV reports that the student, who was not identified, was transported to a nearby hospital by responding paramedics. The student’s injuries were described in the news report as minor, including scrapes and bruises. The bus driver, who was described as a 53-year-old man, was not injured and was “very sorry” about the accident, according to Georgia State Patrol.

Thomas County Schools Superintendent Dr. Lisa Williams said that the bus driver has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation. She said the school system was thankful no one was seriously injured. A statement issued by the school system and reported by WCTV also stated that the driver had agreed to a drug screening, which did not produce any evidence that he was under the influence.
