Pedestrian Struck, Killed by Vehicle in Lakeland, Florida
LAKELAND, FL. – According to a news story posted online at orlandosentinel.com, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in Lakeland, Florida. The victim and the driver of the vehicle have been identified by officials, and the investigation into the accident is still ongoing.*
The accident happened in the morning on Interstate 4 in Lakeland. Florida Highway Patrol and the Orlando Sentinel report that a pedestrian was walking on the interstate near Lakeland at about 6:15 a.m. that day and walked into the path of a westbound vehicle. The vehicle then ran into the pedestrian near mile marker 30 on I-4.
The Orlando Sentinel reports that the pedestrian was severely injured in the accident, and he sadly died from his injuries at the scene. Florida Highway Patrol identified the victim as a 21-year-old man from Riverview, Florida.
The news report indicates that the vehicle involved was a 2014 Nissan Rogue. The driver of the vehicle was identified by Troopers as a 22-year-old man from Orlando, Florida. The Orlando Sentinel states that the driver was injured in the collision, and his injuries were minor. The report did not say whether he was taken to a hospital for treatment.
After the accident, officials closed down almost all of the westbound lanes of I-4 in the area. The far right lane remained open. The other lanes were closed for about four hours while crews investigated at the scene. Troopers are still completing their investigation, and they have not yet reported additional information about the incident to the media.
