Bicyclist Killed in Collision with Vehicle in Chesterfield County, South Carolina
CHESTERFIELD COUTY, SC. – According to a news report posted online at myrtlebeachonline.com, a bicyclist was killed in a collision with a vehicle in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.*
The collision took place in the early morning hours on Tec Road in Chesterfield County. At about 5 a.m., a bicyclist was heading north on Tec Road, approaching Hunter Ridge Road, when a northbound vehicle ran into the back of the bicycle. The vehicle was described as a Dodge Charger.
South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Gary Miller told reporters that the bicyclist was fatally injured in the accident. The Chesterfield County Coroner’s Office pronounced the bicyclist deceased at the scene, according to Myrtle Beach Online. County Coroner Kip Kiser identified the cyclist as a 53-year-old man. Kiser said an autopsy would be performed.
Myrtle Beach Online reports that two people were inside the Dodge at the time of the accident, and neither was injured. The news site also stated that no charges have been filed against the driver, and South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating.
The same morning, according to the news report, Troopers responded to another fatal traffic accident in Chesterfield County. This accident happened at about 7 a.m. on February 23 on U.S. Highway 52 and appears to have involved only one vehicle.
A southbound Chevrolet sedan reportedly ran off the highway and struck a sign, then overturned. Myrtle Beach Online reports that he unidentified driver of the sedan was ejected and killed in the wreck.
