Officials Working to Address Dangerous Intersection in Ben Hill County, Georgia

February 28, 2019

BEN HILL COUNTY, GA. – Officials are working to address a dangerous intersection in Ben Hill County, Georgia, according to an online news story reported by The intersection has been the site of numerous traffic accidents and fatalities in the last several years, and county officials are trying to come up with a solution with the Georgia Department of Transportation.*

Law enforcement officers, county leaders, and residents in Ben Hill County know that the intersection of Highway 90 and Lower Rebecca Road is a problem spot. Ben Hill County Sheriff Lee Cone told reporters that the intersection has seen 26 vehicle accidents in five years, three of which resulted in fatalities.

Part of the danger at the intersection is a blind spot at the top of the hill on the south end of the intersection.

“This actually just puts another problem in the equation, that if you don’t look both ways twice, you could actually cause some major problems, pull out in front of somebody,” Cone said.

Cone, government officials, and the Georgia DOT have now conducted a meeting about the intersection, Cone said, to come up with ways to potentially reduce traffic collisions in the area.

“A roundabout has been talked about, and it would be set up if a roundabout is -- being that it is a state route, the DOT is actually the one behind it.” Cone said. “I feel real good about that something’s going to be done pretty quick.”

Aside from a roundabout, attendees at the meeting discussed a traffic light and stop signs. A final decision will be made at a later date.
